The Crow River Film Festival is proud to present these Documentary short films as a part of the "Documentary Short Film Program." This program will screen once only on Saturday, August 30, at 11:00am at the St. Michael Cinema (4300 O'Day Avenue NE, St. Michael)
Squeegee (14 minutes)
The "Squeegee Boys" are best known for washing windshields of cars stopped at intersections around Baltimore. Seen by some as hooligans and by others as entrepreneurs, little is known about the actual circumstances that drive these young men to pick up a squeegee. This documentary follows the working days of seven young men as they navigate the busy intersections of Baltimore in search of tips. The footage shows scenes likely familiar to many locals who daily encounter the "squeegee boys" from their cars. But shown from the point of view of the "squeegee boys", the film offers new insights into the lived experiences of these young men.
Taha’s Theorem (30 minutes)
As Iraqi-Kurds, Taha Muhammad and his family escaped the persecution of Saddam Hussein in the 1990s and made the harrowing journey to the United States. Today, Taha focuses on trying to solve the world's hardest math problems, both to bring recognition to the Kurdish people and to heal old wounds.
Always a Firefighter (15 minutes)
A behind-the-scenes look at the Shakopee, Minnesota, Fire Department and how the training, camaraderie, and leadership of the department keeps firefighters ready to serve their community.
Excella 500 (8 minutes)
Two DIYers reexamine their values after taking on an Airstream renovation that turns out to be way more than they bargained for.
You Meet in a Tavern (16 minutes)
In an increasingly atomized and isolated world, a group in Minneapolis hopes to make a small difference by bringing people together for drinks and games.
