Explore the art of kurbits (dalmålning) in this two-day Swedish folk painting class inspired by the farmhouse interiors in the Swedish region of Dalarna! Originally painted on linen or paper, these charming scenes often featured the large, telescoping bloom of flowers known today as a “kurbits”. Using acrylic paints on canvas board, students will learn to paint simple traditional flower and leaf forms, and learn a skill that could easily be transferred into other media -such as markers, watercolor, or oil. Patterns/templates are available for those who wish to use them –making this class appropriate for all skill levels. Discussions and demonstrations will explore brush control, traditional colors and design, and historic examples. Students will head home with a unique piece of folk art and the ability to continue painting themselves!
