Open House: The Prisoner of Second Avenue

The third reading of our Fall Open House series is Neil Simon’s dark comedy, The Prisoner of Second Avenue on Saturday, October 18 in Cheek Theatre! Successful executive Mel Edison suffers a nervous breakdown after losing his job. Trapped in a stifling, malfunctioning Manhattan apartment with constant urban chaos, his despair overwhelms his supportive wife, Edna. As their savings vanish, she must find work while he remains a prisoner of modern urban anxiety. The play is a poignant and hilarious examination of a middle-class couple’s struggle to maintain their sanity in a crumbling city.
