Taboo Blah Blah is the band from down the street, hailing from Rockford, Illinois, known for weaving catchy, rhythmic sounds with deeply felt songwriting. The core came together in 2011 when Lincoln Flowers and Gavin Epperson—both former members of Cream Trees—began sharing original songs. They were joined in 2012 by James St. Clair on percussion and later expanded their lineup further for recording projects. They self-released their first EP, Chores, in August of 2014. Their debut full-length album Junkyard Greenhouse followed in 2015, featuring standout tracks like “Harold and Maude,” “Cherry Eyes,” and “Woods.” Junkyard Greenhouse won recognition locally, including RAMI awards for Album of the Year and Best Composition. Their latest album released in 2018, Bleeding Hearts in Bloom, takes on a more somber tone and darker themes. They continue to write new music to this day. Across their music you’ll hear influences from folk, rock-and-roll, and indie-pop. Their style balances raw, intimate instrumentation with energetic and catchy melodies. They remain deeply rooted in the Rockford scene—regularly performing live locally and staying committed to what they describe as “local and organic” sound.
