The Speakeasy located in downtown Rock Island, IL (Quad Cities) is thrilled to present its 10th annual Speakeasy Laugh Hard Stand-Up Comedy Competition!
We start with 30 comedians, who are split up into two prelim rounds on September 6 & 13th. 15 comics perform in each preliminary round for 5 minutes each. The top five from each prelim move to the finals on September 27 and compete for the chance to win $1,000.00 cash and the title of Laugh Hard Champion!
Over the 10 years we've had comedians from St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, Omaha and all points across the Midwest compete in this competition!
We have different judges for every show so there's no crossover. The majority of the judges are local media personalities. We do not use other comics as judges to avoid any conflict of interest.
The comedians are judged in three categories...
1. Material: originality of content, creativity
2. Stage Presence: Comfort level and flow of set
3. Audience Response
The cost to participate is $10 per comic. You can use the paypal link in this event to register or go to the theater's website at www.thecirca21speakeasy.com. Each comic participating will be given two drink tickets on the night they are performing. Anyone attending with you will need to purchase a ticket for $10 in advance or $12 the day of the show. Those participating and/or attending must be 18 or older.
