You're Invited to our September Program:
Monitoring Migratory Birds in Guatemala
Tuesday, September 23, 2025
7- 8:15 pm
At Quarry Hill Nature Center / Rochester, MN
For the past 5 years Zumbro Valley Audubon Society has had a cooperative program with bird banding and observation stations in Guatemala for monitoring the winter survivorship of migratory songbirds that travel annually between South and Central America to North America, including to Minnesota. Members of ZVAS have traveled to the Guatemalan stations to participate in the program, and more recently collaborate with the bird biologists around the Tikal National Park to establish a MOTUS tower to track individual birds fitted with small, lightweight radio transmitters called nanotags.
Members of the Guatemalan team will be hosted by ZVAS for a week of bird related events in September, and will share their experience and observations from the monitoring program at this month’s evening program.
Free and open to the public.
