Literary Blooms is a unique and creative event that combines literature with floral artistry by transforming old, discarded books and pages into stunning floral arrangements. Participants repurpose worn-out books and pages into decorative displays by folding pages, carving out spaces for blooms, and integrating pressed, silk flowers. This event celebrates sustainability, creativity, and a love for books and nature. Whether it's crafting bookish centerpieces, poetic bouquets, or artistic floral sculptures, Literary Blooms offers a hands-on experience that appeals to book lovers, crafters, and flower enthusiasts alike. Guests presenters include:
Pennsylvania artist Kat Claar, owner of From Blossoms, creates striking botanical compositions by combining silk flowers with painted paper shapes. Blending floral design with fine art techniques, she crafts three-dimensional sculptural forms that redefine traditional arrangements.
Lisa Haas, Conservation Education Specialist with the Blair County Conservation District, will demonstrate how to dye book pages using natural dyes by infusing pages with rich, organic colors derived from plants, fruits, and other natural materials.
Casey, Sue and Pauline from the library will be on hand to demonstrate the basics of making flowers out of recycled book pages.
There is no cost to attend the workshop. All supplies will be provided. Please register by calling the library 814-224-2994. Class size is limited to 15 participants.
