At 8:00 PM EST, we welcome back North Carolina singer-songwriter Alma Russ. Alma (say it like Alamo) is a vocalist, songwriter, and musician out of Western North Carolina. She’s been here before and totally blew us away, everything from her playing and singing to just being a really happy and sweet person. That means we’re thrilled to have her back! She plays patchwork music: country, folk, and Appalachian roots sewn together to make something unique. Songwriting is cheaper than therapy, and old songs make her happy. Her musical influences include country gold, bluegrass, folk, old-time, and americana. She attributes inspiration to artists such as Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Bobbie Gentry, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and so many more. She’s thankful to be doing what she loves! Check her out at

At 7:30 PM EST, we welcome back Randolph Thomas, one of the hottest songwriters in Roanoke at the moment. Randolph moved up here about a year ago from Baton Rouge, LA where he was a longtime favorite on the folkie circuit. He accompanies his soulful singing with folk and blues guitar and harmonica arrangements. His evocative, introspective songs marry lyricism and storytelling, honed by his skills as an award-winning poet and short story writer. His albums (Between the Lines and Nite by Nite) are available on CD and through streaming. Check him out at

Now in our 39th year, 3rd Street Coffeehouse is a non-profit listening room run by volunteers and never has a cover charge. We ask that you support our musicians by contributing to the real or virtual hat, which will be identified during the performance. This will greatly help them continue their music and help support their livelihood as performing artists. We thank you in advance!
