Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Ride Riverside Slow Roll Dates this year?
Rides are every Second Friday from April-November 2025 at 6 pm, starting at the Riverside Train Station. The ride dates for 2025 are the following: April 11th, May 9th, June 13th, July 11th, August 8th, September 12th, October 10th, and November 14th.
Who can come to the Slow Rolls?
Ride Riverside Slow Rolls are family-friendly and suitable for riders of most ages and skill levels. Parents accompanying their children, who ride independently on a two-wheeled bicycle or ride in a child seat/trailer/cargo bike, are welcome. We ride 6-7 mph.
Children who are not yet able to ride independently on a two-wheeled bicycle without training wheels typically cannot keep the pace of the group and need more practice before joining a large group ride. For everyone's safety, dogs are welcome if they come in a bike trailer only.
Do I have to wear a helmet for the Slow Rolls?
Ride Riverside strongly recommends wearing your helmet whenever you ride. Helmets can reduce the risk of brain injury in a crash. We are a safety-focused organization; always wearing a helmet sets a good example for children and protects you from injury. Most riders wear helmets to our rides. We also strongly encourage lights on your bike and reflective gear for rides at dusk. Riverside is very dark at night. We also advise using lights and brightly colored/neon clothing in the daytime.
What is the route for the Slow Roll?
We usually post the route a few days ahead of time. Routes are 4-5 miles long, and riders ride at 6-7 mph. We will stay in Riverside unless otherwise noted. Rides generally last about an hour, possibly longer, depending on the pace of the group and the number of stops. If you cannot ride with us, please look at our route, find us, and cheer us on!
What if I don't have a bike?
Ask a friend or ask the Ride Riverside group if anyone would be willing to lend a bike. Additionally, Gears 2 You will offer a free rental for the ride if you call ahead. If you'd like to buy a bicycle, purchasing a used one is the best way to get a good quality bike for the price! Working Bikes is a non-profit in Chicago that sells inexpensive refurbished bikes.
How can I help?
Please get in touch with us! We always need helpers for our rides and more members to attend our planning meetings. We are all volunteers. We are more than just a social group; we want to make biking better and safer in our community.
