Our series of nature journaling workshops will take you on a progressive journey that will allow you to explore skills like observation, art, color theory, poetry, and more! You will have the chance to collaborate with others and learn in a peaceful, welcoming environment in Calumet's best forest preserves (view the agenda for specific site locations)! Light snacks and refreshments will be provided at each session.
Info: In our first session at Whistler Woods (located in Riverdale), participants will learn to observe the smaller elements of nature by focusing on a specific area of land. Journal reflection and refreshments will follow. Meeting location will be at the end of the parking lot.
Info: For our second session taking place in Chicago south side's Dan Ryan Woods, we will select a color to explore and journal with in our surroundings. Journal reflection, light ecological stewardship activities, and refreshments will follow. Please bring water and dress in long sleeves and pants. Meeting location will be the Dan Ryan Woods Visitor Center.
Info: At Riverdale's Kickapoo Woods, we will focus on the serenity of nature by journaling what we observe in specific locations. Journal reflection, light ecological stewardship activities (seed collecting), and refreshments will follow. Please bring water and dress in long sleeves and pants. Meeting location will be the visitor kiosk.
Info: At Beaubien Woods, participants will embark on a nature walk and utilize poetry to reflect on how their surroundings made them feel. Journal reflection, light ecological stewardship activities, and refreshments will follow. Please bring water and dress in long sleeves and pants. Meeting location will be across from Carver Academy athletic field.
Info: Concluding the series at Sand Ridge Nature Center, participants will learn to connect to nature with their emotions, writing entries to express gratitude for the elements of nature we witness. Journal reflection, light ecological stewardship activities, and refreshments will follow. Please bring water and dress in long sleeves and pants. Meeting location will be in front of the nature center.
