Serampore (Srirampur) is much more than a small town along the Ganges in Hooghly; it saw the first printed letters of the Bengali language as well as the first Bengali newspapers. Known as Frederick Nagar, it was a Danish colony from 1755 to 1839. But Srirampur is more than another colony. Its pre-colonial history and stories of the missionaries are equally intriguing. Did you know the second largest Jagannath temple in India can also be located in this town?
