Our son Waylon was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at only one week old. Terrified and unsure of the future, we packed up and headed to UVA to meet his amazing neuromuscular team. We learned what SMA was, discussed treatment options, and faced every challenge head-on.
From deciding Waylon’s treatment plan to receiving Zolgensma, enduring countless pokes and prods, a year of therapy both at home and at UVA, and weekly trips to the hospital — Waylon amazed us every single time. He’s the bravest little boy I’ve ever known — not just because of his diagnosis, but because that’s truly who he is. He’s been a fighter from day one!
Today, Waylon is thriving, hitting every milestone, and beating the odds. While we still don’t know exactly what the future holds, we know he has an incredible support system — and we’re hoping to get our community behind him, too.
We want to give back to the Cure SMA organization. Every year, they hold a Walk-n-Roll to raise funds that support treatment advancements and groundbreaking research.
We’re inviting EVERYONE to join us for Cruisin’ for a Cure Waylon’s Ride, a benefit ride where every cent raised will be donated directly to Cure SMA. Whether you drive a car, truck, jeep, motorcycle, or even a tractor — all are welcome!
After the ride, we’ll have free hot dogs, chips, and drinks for everyone. Registration includes a bracelet, and you can make an additional donation for a custom poker chip!
