Give Me Back My 2000s: Why Linkin Park, «Виа Грa», and The Killers Became Part of Our Collective Memory
Twenty years ago, we lived through a remarkable era. The last legendary rock bands were born, pop music was bold and larger-than-life, and with the rise of the internet, songs became more accessible while stars emerged out of nowhere.
But what kind of time was it really? Why do so many of us still hold “Numb,” “Mr. Brightside,” “All The Things She Said,” and «Солдат» so close to our hearts? Where did these hits come from, and how did the music of 20 years ago help shape who we are today?
This is the theme of a new lecture by music journalist Nikolay Ovchinnikov, author of the Telegram channel Vois and editor at Volna Latvia. Nikolay writes extensively about contemporary music and the ways we live side by side with nostalgia. This year, he’s releasing his book We Will Never Die, dedicated to nu-metal, emo, and the year 2007 - an era so many still long to revisit.
