Most people go through life muting the parts of themselves that feel too weird, too much, or too hard to explain.

You’ve got something you care about deeply but somewhere along the way, you learned to shrink it down. To talk about it less, to be cool, to be professional...and now your favorite part of you rarely sees the light of day.

UNMUTE exists to flip that script.

To give you a stage where you don’t have to sell your passion or justify it,just speak it into the room and watch what happens.

Because when you speak from that place - the place where your eyes light up, where you don’t need notes, where you remember who you are,you become magnetic.And that energy? It translates. To your job. To your relationships. To your confidence.

This isn’t about becoming a polished public speaker.It’s about remembering how to talk like yourself when it matters.And it starts with something as simple as sharing what you love.

• Everyone gets mic time. You’ll have 2–3 minutes to share your passion—casual, messy, joyful, whatever. Whether it’s mushroom foraging, brake pads, opera, anime fight choreography, deep-dive Excel tricks, plane-spotting by sound, villain monologue theory, or vending machine snack reviews - we want it.
• Live coaching from me - I run Charismaki, where I help people speak like themselves on purpose. I’m also a professional beatboxer, so trust me - I know weird. I’ll help you explain your obsession in a way that actually lands.
• A skill-building experience in disguise. You’ll leave more confident speaking in public, even in high-pressure settings.
• Community energy. Think low-stakes open mic, high-trust vibe. No judgment, just people glowing about what they love.
• New friends. 14% of Vancouverites say they feel lonely. Why not meet a bunch of people who have really cool interests?

I used to nerd out about beatboxing and communication so hard it made people uncomfortable. I also love playing video games, especially World of Warcraft.

Like, I’d be talking about vocal textures or why some people shrink when they speak, and the person across from me would just… blink. Smile politely. Nod like they were being held hostage at brunch. You know that look - like, “Aww, he’s really into this.” But not in a good way.

I’d talk about diaphragm compression like it was national news. Or how saying “I’m just rambling” at the end of a sentence is basically a nervous apology for existing.

I loved it. No one else did.

At a certain point I just went 'maybe I should just be "normal"'.

But I kept talking. Not louder - just more effectively. Not to convince anyone, but because I couldn’t stop caring.And somewhere along the way, it stopped being cringe and started connecting. People began asking questions. Inviting me to teach. Paying to learn.

That’s when I realized: the topic never needed changing—just the way I was communicating it.Turns out, when you learn how to share your passion clearly and confidently, people listen differently.

So now, I’m building that room.

UNMUTE is for people with niche obsessions and passionate rabbit holes. The kind of stuff you love so much it makes other people uncomfortable - until it doesn’t. Because here? That obsession might be the coolest thing about you. And when you say it out loud, unapologetically, you don’t just sound smart - you sound alive.
