About the event

Sweater Weather & Warm Fuzzies (featuring Mr. Rogers & Reading Rainbow)
Get your red cardigans and sneakers ready! Calling all fans of Mister Rogers, Reading Rainbow, AND all yarn enthusiasts, knitters, crocheters, fiber artists, and fiber curious! All are invited to join us for our annual fall celebration of Sweater Weather!

Bring in your finger knitting or other yarn creations to help us drape our trees in festive colors before they lose their leaves for the winter at 10:30AM and 1:30PM! Then head inside and explore the many ways you can create and play with the fiber arts as we take over the library gallery, conference rooms, lobby. Hang out with us and work on new creations, pick the brains of other crafters, chat, trade yarn (we'll have one room set aside just for a yarn exchange!), enjoy some snacks and tea, and get ready for fall.

In the afternoon, get your cardigan and sneakers ready for a couple of documentaries that will bring back those warm fuzzies!

12 pm - Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Charmingly soft-spoken and yet powerfully incisive expressing his profound ideals, Fred Rogers was a unique presence on television for generations. Through interviews with his family and colleagues, the life of this would-be pastor is explored as a man who found a more important calling to provide an oasis for children in a video sea of violent bombardment. This documentary paints a portrait of the philosophy and work of the cardigan-wearing children's entertainer and his show “Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.” Mister Rogers creatively communicated themes of empathy and acceptance using a colorful cast of puppets and friends for more than 30 years. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, would you be mine?

2:30 pm - Butterfly In the Sky

For 26 seasons, PBS’s Reading Rainbow met young viewers in their living rooms, whisking them away on far-off adventures into the boundless world of books. With the help of celebrity narrators and nine-year-old book reviewers, the show’s iconic host, LeVar Burton, brought real-life lessons and honest conversations to life in a way we had never before seen on screen. Despite ongoing funding hurdles and new public school testing standards, Burton and the show’s creators held tight to their authentic, down-to-earth approach to fuel kids’ lifelong love of reading. Inspiring and nostalgic, BUTTERFLY IN THE SKY tells the tale of a revolutionary reading movement. Reliving the show’s legacy is a refreshing return to the written page. "But you don’t have to take our word for it!"
