Title: Leveraging Axonal mRNA Translation to Accelerate Nerve Regeneration

Locally synthesized proteins have been shown to perform many different functions in axons, including growth promotion, retrograde signaling, presynaptic plasticity, and survival. Transport of mRNAs into and their translation within axons requires mRNA-protein interactions that provides mechanisms to determine which, when and where new proteins are introduced into axons. These mechanisms also bring opportunities to enhance repair after traumatic nerve injuries – Twiss will present newly developed strategies to target these mechanisms and accelerate axon growth.
