Cynthia McVay is a former strategy and management consultant for McKinsey and independent advisor for household names, nonprofits and startups. She served as Latin American Program Officer for the World Wildlife Fund and inaugural Director of Innovation for the Peace Corps. A decade ago, Cynthia turned her focus to writing short stories, poetry and essays. Her work appears in dozens of literary journals and anthologies. A lifelong creative and environmentalist, A Field of My Own: A Memoir of Place is Cynthia's first book, a love story and tribute to the Hudson Valley where she has lived for a quarter century. She holds a BA from Harvard in biology and studio arts, and an MA in international studies (Brazil/Portuguese) from the University of Pennsylvania and MBA from Wharton, as a Fellow of The Lauder Institute. Cynthia serves on numerous boards including the Rauch Foundation, Center for Large Landscape Conservation, John Burroughs Association, and Harvard Club of the Hudson Valley. Cynthia splits her time between the Hudson Valley and St. Croix, USVI.
Jon Bowermaster is a writer, filmmaker and adventurer and six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council. One of the Society’s ‘Ocean Heroes,’ his first assignment for National Geographic magazine in 1989 was to document a dog-sled expedition that crossed Antarctica for 221 days. He is the founder of Oceans 8 Films and the One Ocean Media Foundation, making films about climate at home in the Hudson Valley and around the world. His podcast, “The Green Radio Hour with Jon Bowermaster” has recorded over 150 episodes with environmental activisits, community leaders and friends from his vast rolodex of travels.
