Þjóðbúningadagur Þjóðminjasafns Íslands og Heimilisiðnaðarfélags Íslands verður haldinn hátíðlegur laugardaginn 6. september, kl. 13 til 16. Í tilefni dagsins eru landsmenn og aðrir gestir hvattir til að mæta á Þjóðminjasafnið í íslenska þjóðbúningnum eða búningi sinnar þjóðar. Þjóminjasafnið mun bjóða þeim sem mæta í þjóðbúningi endurgjaldslaust á sýningar og viðburði dagsins.
Þjóðminjasafn Íslands, í samstarfi við Heimilisiðnarfélag Íslands og norska sendiráðið, standa fyrir metnaðarfullri dagskrá í tilefni Þjóðbúningadagsins.

Norskar þjóðbúninga hefðir og skráning norska þjóðbúningsins á lista UNESCO yfir óáþreifanlegan menningararf mannkyns.

Þjóðdansafélag Reykjavíkur mun stíga þjóðdans og gestum gefst tækifæri á að stíga með þeim dansinn.
Myndakassi verður opinn frá kl. 12-17 en þar geta prúðbúnir gestir safnsins stillt sér upp í þjóðbúningunum sínum og smellt af sér mynd.
Á Þjóðminjasafninu ættu allir að finna eitthvað við sitt hæfi. Fyrir utan grunnsýningu safnsins og sérsýningar þess, stendur barna- og fjölskyldurýmið á 1. hæð öllum opið. Þá er notalegt að setjast niður á kaffihúsinu, njóta drykkja og annarra veitinga eða líta við í safnbúðina en þar eru á boðstólum fágætar vörur af ýmsu tagi.

National Costume Day at the National Museum of Iceland and The Icelandic handicraft association will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6th, from 1 PM to 4 PM.
To mark the occasion, the people of Iceland and other visitors are encouraged to come to the National Museum of Iceland dressed in Icelandic national costume or the traditional attire of their own country. The museum will offer free admission to exhibitions and events on the day for those wearing a national costume.
The National Museum of Iceland, in cooperation with the Icelandic Home Craft Association and the Norwegian Embassy, has prepared an ambitious program for National Costume Day:
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Norwegian National Costume Traditions and the registration of the Norwegian national costume on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Development of the Icelandic National Costume
Location: Guided walk through the National Museum’s permanent exhibition.

The Reykjavík Folk Dance Association will perform traditional Icelandic folk dances, and guests will have the opportunity to join in.
A photo booth will be open from 12 PM to 5 PM, where guests can pose in their national costumes and have their picture taken.
There’s something for everyone at the National Museum. In addition to the museum’s permanent and special exhibitions, the children’s and family area on the 1st floor will be open to all. Visitors can also relax at the museum café, enjoy drinks and refreshments, or stop by the museum shop, which offers a variety of unique items.
