Emily Lethbridge flytur fyrirlestur í Eddu 2. september kl. 12.
Í fyrirlestrinum verður kastljósinu fyrst beint að Gráskinnu (GKS 2870 4to), hinu stórmerkilega Njáluhandriti sem nú má sjá á sýningunni Heimur í orðum í Eddu.
Þessi veðraða bók, sem gerð var kringum árið 1300, mun leiða okkur inn í umfjöllun um kvenpersónur í Njálu og staði sem tengjast þeim.
Síðan færum við okkur nær nútímanum og beinum sjónum að konum sem lásu Njálu, heimsóttu Njáluslóðir og skrifuðu um upplifanir sínar.
Fyrirlestrinum lýkur með hugleiðingu um nýlega umfjöllun um Njálu og spurt verður: hvert næst?
Fyrirlesturinn verður fluttur á ensku.
Staging Njála-women – views from medieval times to the present
This talk will begin with a look at the remarkable manuscript of Njáls saga known as Gráskinna (GKS 2870 4to) recently put on display in the exhibition Heimur í orðum in Edda.
This wrinkled old book from around 1300 will lead us into the saga: we’ll begin by considering some of the women in the saga, in conjunction with places associated with them.
Moving closer to our times, the focus will turn to women who have read Njáls saga, visited places central to its narrative, and written about their experiences.
The talk will be concluded with some thoughts about Njáls saga and engagement with it in recent years, finally asking: where to next?
The lecture will be delivered in English.
