Óperan um Tristan og Ísold eftir Richard Wagner er af mörgum talin eitt af meistaraverkum tónbókmenntanna. Hún hefur heillað áhorfendur með margslungnum vangaveltum sínum um ástina og lífið, en ekki síður með einstöku tónmáli sem hlaðið er ljóðrænni spennu og óvæntri framvindu. Á tónleikunum hljómar tónlist úr verkinu þar sem stórsöngvararnir Nina Stemme og Stuart Skelton fara með hlutverk elskendanna tveggja. Nina Stemme er fastagestur í stærstu óperu- og tónleikahúsum heims þar sem hún syngur mörg dramatískustu sópranhlutverk tónbókmenntanna.
Stuart Skelton hefur einnig skipað sér í röð fremstu tenóra samtímans, ekki síst fyrir túlkun sína á tónlist Wagners. Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir er ein kunnasta söngkona okkar Íslendinga og hefur sungið fjölbreytt hlutverk víða um heim. Hún syngur hlutverk Brangäne, þernu Ísoldar.
Það er mikill fengur fyrir alla unnendur óperutónlistar að sjá og heyra þessa stórsöngvara saman á sviði Eldborgar flytja tónlist úr þessari stórkostlegu óperu. Það er Eva Ollikainen, aðalstjórnandi Sinfóníuhljómsveitar Íslands, sem stjórnar flutningi á þessari mögnuðu tónlist Wagners og teflir einnig fram nýklassískri sinfóníu Stravinskíjs í þremur þáttum sem mótvægi við alla rómantíkina.

Richard Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde is considered by many to be one of the masterpieces of the world’s musical heritage. It has captivated audiences with its complex reflections on love and life, but no less with its unique musical language that is loaded with poetic tension and unexpected developments. The concert will feature music from the opera, with the great singers Nina Stemme and Stuart Skelton performing the roles of the two lovers. Nina Stemme is a regular at the world's largest opera and concert halls, where she sings many of the most dramatic soprano roles in music.
Stuart Skelton has also established himself as one of the leading tenors of our time, not least for his interpretation of Wagner's music. Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir is one of Iceland's best-known singers and has sung a variety of roles around the world. She will sing the role of Brangäne, Isolde's maid.
It is a major treat for all opera lovers to see and hear these great singers together on the stage of Eldborg Hall performing music from this magnificent opera. Eva Ollikainen, principal conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, conducts this performance of Wagner's amazing music and also introduces Stravinsky's neoclassical symphony in three movements as a counterpoint to all the romanticism.
