This ride will focus on bike security and riding various newer bike facilities. Before taking off on this ~7-mile ride, we will learn about bike security and parking. We will start with a tour of the Bike Parking Station at the Shasta Bike Depot and you will be shown how to effectively lock your bike and how to register your bike for free with Bike Index. This ride will take you on the newest bike infrastructure in Redding – the new California Street protected bikeway as well as the protected bikeway on S. Market Street that goes under the railroad trestle. We will spend a short amount of time on Buenaventura before connecting with the Blue Gravel paved trail. From there we will meander through the quiet Magnolia neighborhood to the soon to be built ‘Butte Street Boogie’ back to downtown Redding. Bring water and a helmet (required). Ride distance: 7 miles with one moderate climb. Meet at the Shasta Bike Depot parking lot, 1313 California St, downtown Redding and be ready to begin at 5:15pm.

Bike Abouts are beginner-friendly rides to learn how to explore your neighborhood and community by bike. Whether you want to do a quick errand by bike, ride to school or work, or just get out to enjoy nature, these rides are for you! The rides in this series will feature safety tips for riding in traffic, allow you to experience the comfort of riding in a group, and familiarize you with routes that may be different from motor vehicle routes. We will provide a bike pump, so if your tires need air, come a little early. Please make sure you have a bike in good working order, bring a water bottle and helmet (required for rides). Lights on your bike are strongly encouraged. Rides will be conducted by Anna Blasco and Sara Sundquist, Certified League of American Bicyclist Instructors. All riders will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Ride will be cancelled if heavy rain or AQI above 150. Be safe, follow the rules of the road, and have fun!
