Revolution, broadly defined, refers to systemic political change through mass mobilization of people who did not previously hold the levers of government power. But is that how common people understood and experienced “revolution” when, or if, it swept through their neighborhoods? Streifeneder will examine the varied experiences of living through the American Revolution in the mid-Hudson Valley, with a focus on Red Hook and Rhinebeck. This talk will examine localized revolutionary activities as well as the many ways residents from this region contributed as "American Revolution" transitioned into "Revolutionary War."

This program is part of our Fall Rev250 Speaker Series at the Elmendorph Inn and on Zoo: featuring five talks on the Revolution’s impact in Dutchess County and the evolving cultural landscape of the Hudson Valley. Free to attend; registration required.

Presenter Bio:
Dillon Streifeneder is a historian of colonial America, the American Revolution, and the early American republic. His current project focuses on state formation and governance in New York during the era of the American Revolution. Streifeneder received his PhD from the Ohio State University. He is currently an Assistant Professor of History at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
