On December 11 at 6PM, step back in time and celebrate the season with A Classic Christmas Cavalcade — a live, old-fashioned radio variety show brought to you by the Spirit of the Airwaves Players (S.O.A.P)! Experience the golden age of radio just as audiences did in the 1940s, complete with live actors, vintage microphones, and sound effects created right before your very ears. This event is FREE!
This festive program features a trio of holiday-themed radio re-creations, blending nostalgia, humor, and heartwarming storytelling for audiences of all ages:
~Act One: "Our Miss Brooks and the Magic Christmas Tree"
Our holiday broadcast kicks off with the beloved English Teacher, Miss Brooks of Madison High, who is trying to wrangle her usual cast of characters for a holiday celebration. In this heartwarming tale, Connie finds herself in a Christmas predicament that only a touch of magic can solve, leading to a charming story about the spirit of giving and the true meaning of the season.
Act Two: "Duffy’s Tavern presents 'A Christmas Carol meets It’s a Wonderful Life'"
Pull up a stool at Duffy's Tavern, where manager Archie is in a holiday slump. In this side-splitting blend of Dickens and Capra, Archie's Christmas funk is interrupted by a mysterious stranger who shows him what Christmas really is all about. Watch as the famously mangled English and zany hijinks turn the traditional Christmas tale completely on its head.
~Act Three: "Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel in 'The Great Turkey Tussle'”
Groucho and Chico Marx, reprising their roles as crooked lawyer Waldorf T. Flywheel and his clueless assistant Emmanuel Ravelli, hit the airwaves for a final act of seasonal silliness. When the duo accidentally "adopt" a hungry young boy on Christmas Eve and decide to get him the best Christmas dinner in town, their usual schemes and rapid-fire jokes are unleashed upon a series of unsuspecting—and often hilarious—victims.
