Walk in the Footsteps of Archibald Knox – Upper Sulby Valley

Join Catriona Livingstone for a walking tour through the beautiful Manx countryside to see the landscapes that inspired Archibald Knox’s work. These immersive walks offer a sensory experience, allowing you to feel and appreciate the essence of Knox's artistry. Along the way, you’ll gain unique insights into his life and legacy, with plenty of time to pause, take in breathtaking views, and connect deeply with the surroundings much as he did.

Magnificent Sulby Valley! Views of Snaefell, Slieu Managh, the Michael Hills, and Mount Karran. We will walk down into the valley from the reservoir, then up through the glen to a site where there are two tholtans, the remnants of a once prosperous farming community, a Keeill and a covered well. There are no Knox watercolours in our collection showing this area. However, Knox must have known the valley well and you are walking where he would have walked before the reservoir was constructed between 1979 and 1982.
