Glencoe Mansion Gallery presents, "Imagination, Reality, and Memories,” featuring the works of artist Yvonne Alderman with the opening reception on Thursday, November 13, from 5:30 to 7
PM.
The name of Alderman’s show, “Imagination, Reality, and Memories,” truly speaks to the essence of her works as she draws from all three sources for the creation of her pieces. Her works are suffused with a sense of the fantastic as well as the nostalgic. They reflect her lived experience. Growing up in the Blue Ridge, she absorbed the culture and environment around her. She experienced the many ways that people of the region expressed themselves from gardening and quilting to telling family stories and painting. She was also inspired by the mountains and the flora and fauna that inhabit them.
Alderman’s early art training took place while earning her degree in education and English at Radford University. She continued her education with a Masters in English from Virginia Tech, and ultimately a doctorate in British Literature at the University of
North Carolina at Greensboro. Returning to the world of the visual arts, Alderman studied privately in Santa Fe, New Mexico and at the Studio School in Roanoke.
