Led by prolific songwriting genius and renowned rock figurehead Billy Corgan, the band (which includes widely respected drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and wonderfully enigmatic guitarist James Iha…) and its music has endured more than three decades’ worth of trends and remains to be a fiercely driven musical force that simply cannot be replaced nor imitated.

The band’s sound was like no other: driving rhythms, thickly layered guitar riffs that were juxtaposed between being beautifully melodic and densely dreary, the interplay of Corgan’s space-child vocals and angst-ridden screams – all brought together by his painfully honest lyricism – was hard to limit to the confines of traditional alternative, grunge, hard rock, new wave or even heavy metal and electronica. As evident with the progression of each album in the band’s extensive catalogue, the band undoubtedly remained a step ahead of their peers and always had the pulse of modern music within their arsenal, which is why they continue to release groundbreaking music to this day.
Though the band originally made its way to the Philippines in 2012, it was during a time when the band was admittedly navigating through shaky waters, with Corgan being the only founding member to perform. This time around, all three original members (considered by longtime fans to be the most authentic and powerful lineup…) have finally come together to perform at the Araneta Coliseum this September 29th, 2025, for one night only, in a show dubbed SMASHING PUMPKINS ‘ROCK INVASION 2025’ IN MANILA.
