The Coorong and Other Meanderings
New paintings and ceramics By David Beaumont
Join us for an engaging conversation between David Beaumont and Anna Gowers, featuring a special cello performance by Gareth Skinner, on Sunday October 5 at 2pm.
In this new body of work, David Beaumont explores the quiet, compelling landscapes of the Coorong and beyond, drawing from time spent camping between the Hooded Plover site and the Murray River mouth—where freshwater meets the Southern Ocean. These paintings, rich with new colour combinations and subtle shifts in tone, echo the layered beauty of Swan Bay and Lake Tyrrell, while also revealing a lingering connection to the Mallee.
There is a familiar, yet evolving connection to regions like Swan Bay and Lake Tyrrell, with a renewed focus on surface, line, and spatial relationships. Subtle shifts in tone and newly explored combinations bring a fresh energy to the work, while still honouring the quiet strength and contemplative nature of the landscapes that continue to call him back.
This exhibition also marks a new direction: the artist’s first exploration into ceramics. These tactile forms extend the visual language of the paintings, offering a three-dimensional dialogue with the landscapes that continue to seek him out.
These are works of nuance, humility, and contemplation—landscapes that don’t shout, but resonate deeply.
