Alyssa, our little Ally has MPS 1, also known as Hurler Syndrome. In simple terms, it’s a rare genetic condition where her body is missing an important enzyme that helps break down certain sugars. Because of this, those sugars build up in her body and will affect her organs, bones, and development over time. She was diagnosed at just 7 months old. Right now, she needs enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) every Wednesday, and she’ll need it for the rest of her life unless she receives a successful transplant. 💔 Her ERT costs R92,000 a month, and unfortunately our medical aid isn’t covering it .. it’s been an enormous emotional and financial strain, and as a mom, it often leaves me feeling helpless. 😭
But the support from our community… it’s what keeps us going. To know that people care enough to rally around our little girl brings a kind of hope I can’t put into words. We are endlessly grateful.
Despite everything she faces, Ally is the happiest and friendliest little soul. Right now her absolute favourite is peek-a-boo, she laughs every single time. She loves giving kisses, playing with her doll, water play outside, and popping bubbles!! She truly brings so much joy into our home. 💜
