MCCS Cardboard Regatta Boat Race

Assemble your team and join us for a thrilling cardboard boat race - a fun, creative event where you'll compete against other crews in vessels made entirely of cardboard and duct tape.

Teams of two will compete in respective heats, propelling their boats with paddles provided by MCCS. Teams of two will be child-child, child-adult, and adult-adult. Age range for child category is 5-11 years old and adult category is 12 years and older.

The length of the race will be 50 meters for adult teams and 25 meters for teams with one child or two children. The respective heats will be child-child, child-adult, and adult-adult and the race will be a tournament-style competition. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams for each heat.

All boats must be inspected prior to the race on either June 7 from 10:30 AM - 12:00 noon or June 13 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM. Participants are responsible for transporting their boats to and from the pool.

Paddles and life vests will be provided to participants and lifeguards will be on duty.

Registration open March 14 - May 31.

• Boat Size maximums:
  Length – 12 feet (including decorative features)
  Width – 4 feet
• Boat Capacity – Carry two people
• Boat Materials – Cardboard, duct tape, and shellac

RULES AND REGULATIONS

• Only the materials listed may be used.
• Design is the builder’s choice.
• Each participant must wear a personal flotation device while on their boat.
• Each boat must carry two team members.
• Team members must not be enclosed above the shoulders. Team members must always be visible while the boat is in the water.
• All participants must be wearing a swimsuit (no denim)
• Teams are not allowed to sabotage or interfere with another team’s boat. Any rough housing in the water will lead to disqualification.
• If a team member exits the boat during the race, the team will be disqualified.
• Judging will be based on time at the completion of the race or distanced traveled and time the boat sinks.
• Team members must supply their own towels.
• When a team has finished the race, the team must remove the boat from the water as well as any debris left in the water and dispose of it at the designated trash area. Notify the staff if assistance with boat disposal is needed.
• Teams will paddle 25 meters from one side of the pool to the other.
• If both boats fail to complete the course, the boat which got the furthest is the winner.
