This Friday Night — July 25th, 7–9pm
Four Eleven Gallery Presents Heirloom: Paintings by Liz Carney and Ella Grimm
A matriarchal lineage threads through the work of painter Liz Carney and emerging artist Ella Grimm. Their paintings form a living heirloom—visual stories of the Outer Cape, passed down through generations of women artists. This heirloom is both a place and a spirit: the creative legacy of those who came before.
Together, Carney and Grimm explore what it means to observe, to remember, and to transform. Their works speak across generations, inviting viewers to slow down—to feel soil and water, light and shadow—and to reflect on the shared painterly inheritance of a remarkable place.
Carney’s paintings explore gardens and plein air scenes from both local and distant landscapes, while Grimm captures the intimacy of Provincetown interiors. The two first met 15 years ago, when the gallery opened. A young Ella, just seven at the time, would accompany her mother, artist Helen Grimm, to gallery openings. Now a painter in her own right, Ella studies art at Cornell University.
Similarly, Liz Carney was encouraged by her own mother, painter Madelyn Carney, who purchased the house at 411 Commercial Street when Liz was eight years old. The home has been a place of inspiration to many over the past five decades.
We hope you can join us this Friday night! The show will be up through August 7th
