Primitive Rug Hooking
Join us for a fun and engaging 2 - 3 hour workshop, learning the basics of “Primitive Rug Hooking” where participants will create a 6” x 6” rug hooked design using a kit created by well known Nova Scotian rug hooker, Deanne Fitzpatrick.

All supplies are included for the workshop. This includes a Rug Hooking Kit, burlap, wool / yarn, a hook, and an embroidery frame. Participants will be able to choose their kit at the beginning of the workshop. Participants will also be able to view and try hooking on a “Cheticamp Frame” from Cheticamp, Nova Scotia.

Primitive rug hooking originated in England in the late 18th or early 19th century, with the craft gaining popularity in the Maritimes in the 19th century. This technique traditionally involved using scrap fabric and a hooked tool to pull loops of fabric through a backing material (typically linen or burlap) creating a looped rug. The craft was initially a way to utilize leftover materials and old woolen clothing. It was often associated with the "craft of the poor".
Class runs on Saturday, July 26 from 9:30am to noon
at Studio 2880 in Prince George, BC
