Trio Gloriosa has become one of South Africa’s favourite trios in the past few years. Distinguished musicians Camelia Onea (violin), Berthine van Schoor (cello) and Annalien Ball (piano) officially formed their trio in 2014, after playing together for many years.
Trio Gloriosa has performed numerous concerts for the Unisa Music Foundation, the Tauromenium, Glenshiel and Theatre on the Square Concert series, as well as the Aardklop Festival and Pretoria Association of the Arts. The South African composer Mokale Koapeng dedicated a trio to them. They have played several concerts for foreign embassies in Pretoria, eg the Austrian, Hungarian, Italian and Swiss Embassies.
The Trio enjoys playing a wide repertoire, which ranges from Classical Piano Trios (Chopin, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Arensky, Dvorak) to Tangos and Cinema soundtracks (Cinema Paradiso, Life is Beautiful, Il Postino, Ladies in Lavender, Scent of a Woman, Memoirs of a Geisha, Schindler’s List, to name but a few). Their recent performances at the 2022 Wakkerstroom Music Festival and the Alliance Francaise were sold out and they received standing ovations at all their concerts.
Trio Gloriosa is named after the South African wildflower, Gloriosa superba, also known as the Flame Lily.
