Photography as Art - A lunchtime lecture by Wilhelm van Rensburg

Celebrating World Photography Day, Wilhelm van Rensburg, Senior Art Specialist & Head Curator at Straus & Co, reflects on the differences between photographs, photography as art, and photorealism. When does a photograph become an artwork? How do artists use photography as an art medium? In what ways can an art photograph be interpreted? When did the photographic turn occur? The talk also covers the history of photography in South Africa, as well as an in depth look at the nature of contemporary photographic art.
