Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of esteemed Dutch-born conductor, Gerben Grooten, with soloists Christiaan Snyman (bass-baritone) and Natalie Bentley (cello), invites you to a spectacular celebration of the profound legacies left on classical music by some of the greatest composers of all time.
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of harmonic dialogues with some light banter in WA Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, a generous helping of sunlight, humour, charm, and serenity from Beethoven’s 4th Symphony. The impression made upon the shoemaker-poet, Hans Sachs by the young Walther von Stolzing’s song, is imaginatively expressed in the well-known monologue from Richard Wagner’s opera, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. An aria from Richard Strauss’ opera “Die Schweigsame Frau” and Max Bruch’s exquisite composition for solo cello and orchestra (Kol Nidrei) promise a special and memorable afternoon of harmonic dialogues.
On the programme:
M Bruch, Kol Nidrei, Op. 47
L van Beethoven, Symphony no. 4, Op. 60
L van Beethoven, "Hat man nicht auch Gold beineben" from Fidelio, Op.72
WA Mozart, Overture to The Magic Flute, K. 620
R Wagner, “Was duftet doch der Flieder” from die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, WWV 96
R Strauss, “Wie schön ist doch die Musik” from die Schweigsame Frau, Op. 80, TrV 265
