1700 years ago, the Council of Nicaea (325AD) was a watershed moment in the history of Christianity, most notably because of its main dispute between Athanasius and Arius. This talk offers a historical-theological analysis of Athanasius’ apology against Arianism in defense of Nicene orthodoxy, with a particular focus on his methodology: his use of Scripture, engagement with philosophical categories, and appeal to Church tradition.

Karnu van Heerden heads up the Pretoria and Centurion chapters of the apologetics ministry Ratio Christi. His Masters in Theology focused on the relationship between logical argumentation and evangelism.
