Hardcover Junk Journal/Notebook Workshop

Hardcover Junk Journal/Notebook Bookbinding Workshop - 21 June 2025, at "Boekeplek & Kuierstoep" Aurelia street, Garsfontein from 09h00-13h00.

During this workshop, you will learn to make your own hardcover book that can be used as a junk journal, gratitude or art journal diary, or notebook.

You will make the following:

1 x hardcover A5 book, covered with scrapbook paper and spine;
2 x bound paper signatures (5 x 2 A4 paper), consisting of various vintage and printed paper.

You will learn the following techniques with step-by-step instructions:

Determining size of journal and selection of suitable paper;
Creating chipboard covers and spine;
Covering in and outside of journal;
Creating signatures;
Creating template to bind signatures into spine;
Binding signatures with bookmaking needle and waxed thread;
Adding ribbon closure;
Short overview of decoration and embellishment of journal.
