What is TRE ?
Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) is a unique and innovative approach to stress reduction and trauma healing developed by Dr. David Berceli, a trauma therapist and social worker.
TRE consists of a series of simple exercises designed to activate the body's natural tremor mechanism, facilitating the release of tension, stress, and trauma stored in the muscles and nervous system.
The primary goal of TRE is to initiate neurogenic tremors, which are involuntary shaking or trembling movements that originate from the body's core and radiate outward to release physical and emotional tension. These tremors are a natural, self-regulating response of the nervous system and are similar to the shaking that occurs in animals after a stressful experience to discharge excess energy and restore balance. During this introductory workshop, Donna will guide you through the following:
1. Grounding techniques: The workshop will start with some simple grounding techniques
2. Learning the Exercises: You will then be guided through a series of gentle exercises that target specific muscle groups, in the legs and pelvis. These exercises are designed to fatigue the muscles and stimulate the body's natural tremor response.
3. Initiating Tremors: After completing the exercises, you will lie down on the floor in a comfortable position and allow your body to spontaneously tremor. The tremors may start subtly and gradually intensify, spreading throughout the body as tension is released.
4. Facilitating Release: As the tremors occur, you will be encouraged to surrender to the process, trusting that your body knows how to release and allow the body to release stored tension, stress, and trauma. You will be supported throughout the process in a safe environment
5. Integration and Rest: at the end of the workshop you will be guided through relaxation techniques to help integrate the experience and promote a sense of calm and well-being.
6. Debrief: the workshop will end with a debrief and more grounding techniques.
