‼️PRO DEMOCRACY DEMO‼️
Whatever political party you follow, or even if you have no allegiance to any, I think there is something that unites as all.
We all agree in our right to democracy.
We cannot allow politicians in power to remove that right.
They say it's because the elections will distract from the reorganisation of our local councils.
This is an ongoing government-led process to replace the current two-tier system with fewer unitary authorities.
Who says the people in the current administration are the best people for the job?
That shouldn't be a decision they make for themselves.
We know Matthew Brown, current Labour leader of Preston City Council has already made noises about cancelling the elections in May.
In December Alison McGovern MP wrote to all local councils asking them to set out their views on the postponement of local elections in May 2026.
What do we think Preston City Councils response to that will be?
This is not about any specific political party, it's about democracy.
I encourage EVERYONE to come together on this, all parties, all backgrounds, all beliefs.
Democracy is not democracy when it can be taken away by a small group of people. That feels more like a dictatorship.
