July meeting “Our Rivers & Catchments’ historical impacts: A look at the legacy of mining in Vic”
Our guest speaker Professor Susan Lawrence – from Archaeology & History at La Trobe University, will present on:
“Our Rivers & Catchments’ historical impacts: Looking at the long-term environmental legacy of mining in Victoria”
Professor Susan Lawrence has over 25 years of experience in historical archaeology in Australia. Her research includes investigations on the history of mining, water use, rivers and environmental change.
Much of her work has focussed on the Australian gold rush, with a major project on the “Rivers of Gold”.
Come along and learn about the impacts of the Gold Rush, water supply, water rights, controlling pollution, and SLUDGE on our much-loved rivers & fish habitats, through the lens of archaeology & history.
7 pm: Pre-meeting, greet and stickybeak at our NFA(Vic) volunteer-run fish hatchery for early-comers.
7.30 pm SHARP: monthly general meeting commences with NFA(Vic) updates, followed by Prof Susan Lawrence’s presentation.
Light refreshments provided & a chat afterwards, after all the NFA business is covered. There may even be some special prizes to be drawn on the night ... Please SPREAD THE WORD!
