An overview of the fire investigation process from initial mobilisation to the final report. Walk through real-world investigative workflows

About this Event

Speaker: Andre Turner MSc, MFireInv, Station Manager, Fire Investigation Manager, ISO 17020 Accreditation Lead, Arson Prevention Lead, Member of the UK Association of Fire Investigators (UK-AFI), Essex County Fire and Rescue Service

Description: An overview of the fire investigation processβ€”from initial mobilisation to the final report. Drawing on over two decades of operational experience and academic research, Andre will walk through real-world investigative workflows, including scene assessment, evidence interpretation, and reporting standards. This session will also highlight the development of nationally accredited Tier 1 Fire Investigation training, the integration of fire investigation dogs. As a member of the UK Association of Fire Investigators (UK-AFI), Andre brings both practical and strategic perspectives to the evolving landscape of fire investigation.

Bio: Andre joined ECFRS in 1999 and has served across multiple fire stations. In 2012, he transitioned to Prevention at SHQ, where he led Home Safety initiatives and supported adult safeguarding boards. He also ensured internal fire investigation training was well resourced. In 2017, Andre moved into Protection, where he developed the Tier 1 Fire Investigation course and led scene-based training. He has represented ECFRS at regional meetings since 2020, serving as chair. Andre holds Level 3 and 4 Fire Safety qualifications and completed an MSc in Fire Investigation at the University of Lancashire in 2023. His research, conducted with Dr Sarah Hall, validated lab-based findings on emollient flammability through real-world studies. Appointed Fire Investigation Manager in 2022, Andre now leads a team that includes a fire investigation dog and oversees nationally accredited training. His work continues to elevate ECFRS’s fire investigation standards, making it one of the leading services in the UK. Andre is also a proud member of the UK Association of Fire Investigators (UK-AFI), contributing to national dialogue and development in the field.
