About the event

Drawing and Centering
Rather than walking through nature, we will look longer and deeper into place as we explore line, mark making, shadow and sunlight. We will focus on one beautiful place in nature as we explore observation and stillness, through drawing. We will begin with noticing where our gaze rests, find a focus, and drop into an intentional space. We will explore materials, composition, and pattern, as we become aware of the unique and exquisite connections of light in the natural world. Drawing involves sustained observation. Instead of passing through nature towards a destination, we connect with nature through stillness. We select a place to draw, and in the stillness of observation we see more, hear more. We restore and laugh and learn.

No previous drawing experience is required. An open mind and laughter is required.

Required equipment: Bring a lightweight chair, comfortable clothing for the forecast, sunglasses, sunhat, your lunch & water, and drawing supplies.

Drawing supplies:
-Sketchbook, sizes 11×14 or 9×12. The paper needs to be thicker than printer paper. Look for a sketchbook with paper weight at 110 lb. Paper that is 90 lb or less is too flimsy for this course.
-Ink: Permanent Black Ink drawing pens, assorted sizes, i.e. black sharpie, ultra fine, or micron .05 & 10
-Water soluble Black Ink pen (as in a Tombow)
-Colours: Water soluble pens, such as Tombow Dual Markers
-Watercolours & brushes also welcome. Small container for water.
-Pencil, watercolour pencils also welcome.
-Masking tape, easy release.
