From opulent mansion to colourful tenement, Labassa in Caulfield North is a rare survivor of nineteenth-century splendour, and its story is as vibrant as its interiors.
Once home to a silent movie star, artists, and bohemians, Labassa boasts lavish Japanese wallpapers, ornate stained glass, and a rare trompe l’oeil ceiling. Redeveloped in the French Second Empire style by architect John A. B. Koch for owner Alexander William Robertson, it was transformed in 1889 into a magnificent 35-room mansion with views of Port Phillip Bay.
Through the decades, Labassa has been home to post-war European families, 1960s free spirits, and generations of Melburnians, each leaving their mark on this extraordinary house.
Join us to explore this living time capsule, and for a lucky few, climb the tower for breathtaking views.
