Můžeme říci, že žijeme v nové éře planetárního navrhování podporovaného všudypřítomnými počítači. Ekologická a chytrá města jsou jen nejviditelnějšími projevy této nové „generativní“ situace. Tato přednáška se bude zabývat tím, jak se navrhování v současné době mění díky novým biologickým, finančním a informačním technologiím a jak nové myšlenky o „generativních“ technologiích a prostředích mění estetiku, politiku a ekonomiku naší současnosti.
Orit Halpern je profesorkou a předsedkyní katedry digitálních kultur na Technické univerzitě v Drážďanech. Její výzkum se zaměřuje na historii kybernetiky, navrhování, politiky a umělé inteligence. Je autorkou dvou knih, The Smartness Mandate (MIT Press 2023) a Beautiful Data: A History of Vision and Reason since 1945 (Duke Press 2015). V současné době pracuje na dvou projektech. První se zabývá historií automatizace rozhodování, reakční politiky a svobody, ten druhý zkoumá historii experimentování v planetárním měřítku v oblasti navrhování, vědy a inženýrství.

We arguably live in a new age of planetary design supported by ubiquitous computing. Eco-cities and smart cities are but the most visible manifestations of this new ‘generative’ condition. This talk will interrogate how design is being transformed in our present through new bio, financial, and information technologies, and how new ideas about ‘generative’ technologies and environments are transforming the aesthetics, politics, and economics of our present.
Orit Halpern is the Lighthouse Professor and the Chair of Digital Cultures at Technische Universität Dresden. Her research is on histories of cybernetics, design, politics, and artificial intelligence. She is the author of two books, The Smartness Mandate (MIT Press 2023) and Beautiful Data: A History of Vision and Reason since 1945 (Duke Press 2015). She is currently working on two projects. The first is a history of automating decision making, reactionary politics, and freedom and the second examines the history of experimentation at planetary scales in design, science, and engineering.
