We are very exited to be able to invite you to meet in person, one of the most vocal and charismatic voices of the London anti-genocide protests.
Stephen Kapos was born in 1937 in Budapest which meant he was growing up in a dictatorship of Admiral Horthy, when Hungary introduces anti-Semitic laws which were amongst the worst anywhere in the world until the rise of Mussolini and Hitler.
And then the holocaust... Stephen was 7 years old when the Nazis reached Budapest. He survived thanks to his aunt who got him and other children taken in by a group of Protestant pastors, Calvinist and Lutheran, and local lawyers and the Swiss Red Cross. They told the Germans that they were housing Aryan refugees from the East and got false papers together to keep them safe. They managed to save a total of 2000 Jewish children.
Stephen's father survived Belsen and Theresienstadt, his mother also survived. But many of his friends and relatives haven't. Fifteen members of his family had perished in the holocaust.
Stephen later also survived the 1956 Hungarian uprising and only then escaped to Britain.
Stephen's incredible life journey broth him to oppose and fight racism and fascism in all its forms.
Today he is a part of a group of holocaust survivors who keep joining the anti genocide protests and numerous talks in Britain and Europe in support of Palestine. We met Stephen in Vienna this summer at the First Jewish Anti Zionist Congress.
We are very glad Stepehen accepted our invitation to Prague to participate with us on the events of Light for Lost Childhood for the child victims of the latest eruption of violence, and injustice perpetrated by Israeli occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide.
