Euforie i melancholie bez žánrových hranic. Londýnská post-post-rocková kapela caroline vydává novou desku caroline 2 (feat. Caroline Polachek), s kterou na podzim poprvé navštíví Prahu ★
Osmičlenný kolektiv 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 debutoval v roce 2022 s eponymní deskou vydanou u Rough Trade Records. V desítce převážně instrumentálních skladeb, které nachází inspiraci v mlhavém folku, fragmentovaném post-rocku i hořkoskladkém midwest emo, experimentují s cyklením, minimalismem, kontrasty a dynamikou. Výsledkem jsou abstraktní zvukové obrazy malované rozvážným i odvážným vrstvením hypnotických hudebních motivů hraných na kytary, bicí, housle, flétnu nebo klarinet. Album, které místy připomíná Godspeed You! Black Emperor a jinde zase Black Country, New Road, je zhmotněním několika let společných improvizací, během nichž se kapela rozrostla z tria v oktet.

caroline na svůj debut letos navazují druhým albem, které pokračuje ve zkoumání repetice a prostoru, směřuje však hlouběji do dynamických kontrastů — mezi organickým a elektronickým, syrovým a uhlazeným. Pilotní singl z desky, dekonstruovaná folková skladba Tell me I never knew that, je featem s Caroline Polachek. Ta o nové nahrávce kapely říká: „their next album is a masterpiece and this song is just one piece of a bewilderingly beautiful puzzle.“

Soundscapes of euphoria and melancholy, untethered by genre. The London post-post-rock collective caroline release a new album, caroline 2 (feat. Caroline Polachek), set to play in Prague for the first time in October ★
𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 debuted in 2022 with their eponymous record released via Rough Trade Records. Across ten largely instrumental tracks—drawing inspiration from hazy folk, fragmented post-rock, and bittersweet midwest emo—the band experiments with repetition, minimalism, structure, and dynamics. The result is a collection of vibrant, abstract soundscapes painted through patient yet fearless layering of hypnotic motifs played on guitar, drums, violin, flute, and clarinet. Reminiscent at times of Godspeed You! Black Emperor as well as Black Country, New Road, the record is a result of years worth of collective improvisations and the band expanding from a trio to an eight-piece.

This year, caroline follow up their debut with a second album, continuing their exploration of repetition, slowness and space, but diving deeper into dynamic contrasts—between organic and electronic, raw and refined. Launched with the striking single Tell me I never knew that, featuring Caroline Polachek’s unmistakable vocals, caroline 2 showcases a fearless interplay of layered instrumentation, warped vocal processing, and moments of both euphoria and melancholy. Intentional and immersive, this next chapter solidifies caroline as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary music.
caroline 2 releases on May 30 and the band takes it on tour this coming fall with a stop at MeetFactory on October 12.
