One Room Theatrics, Inc. is proud to announce that auditions for the second show of its 2025/2026 season, Martin VanBuren III's Opening Up: A Holiday Experience, will take place Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 10am to 1pm and Monday, September 29, 2025 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stone Valley Arts in Poultney.
SHOW DESCRIPTION
It’s December in a small Vermont town, and veteran delivery driver Frank Granger just wants to finish his Holiday route and go home to his wife. Riding shotgun is Max, his new assistant, who could spend all day in the truck, and is not nearly as quiet as Frank might like. Across a week of deliveries on winding backroads, the two find themselves knocking on doors that open to all manner of customers. Every stop is a new voice, a new face, a new reminder that there’s more going on in these houses, and in each of them, than meets the eye. One night, when a blizzard shuts the world in around them, the work becomes less about packages and more about what they’re carrying with them.
This production of Opening Up: A Holiday Experience will be produced by One Room Theatrics and directed by Martin VanBuren III. Three performances will be taking place throughout Rutland County on December 5, 6, and 7.
WHAT TO BRING:
- 1-2 Minute Holiday Themed Monologue
- Headshot and Acting Resume
ROLE DESCRIPTIONS
- Frank Granger (male-identifying, 40s-50s) is a veteran delivery driver who has spent decades on the road. Pragmatic to the point of brusqueness, with a deadpan sense of humor that can read as gruff or cutting. Carries himself like a man who finds comfort in routine and silence, but beneath that reserve sits the weight of old grief. He’s not unkind. He notices more than he lets on, but vulnerability does not come easily to him.
- Max (male-identifying, 18) is quick talking, curious, and often awkward. Calls shotgun even though he secretly wants to drive the truck. Uses humor as both shield and sword, and blurts out more than he intends but rarely regrets it. Underneath it all is just a kid who had to grow up overnight.
- Valerie Granger (female-identifying, 40s-50s) is Frank's wife. The grounding force of the Granger home. Practical, quick-witted, and unafraid to poke at Frank’s rough edges. She has a warmth that shows through small acts of care, and her humor often arrives in the form of sly jabs that carry affection more than bite. She has weathered her own storms, but without causing the same rough edges that Frank has.
- Eleanor Mayhew (female-identifying, 70s-80s) has lived a full life with enough stories for several lifetimes. Hasn't raised her voice in 40 years. Quiet, gentle, but sharp and caring. Had a wild side back in the day that slips out here and there.
- Cammy Leon (any gender identity, 20s–50) plays the full ensemble of all the other roles, by themself, across the play’s world: Mrs. Faulkner, Cardio Carl, NB Jr., Jane Doe, Box Man, Satan, God, Clara, Husband, Wife, Owner, Partygoers #1–7, and the Radio Announcer.
