Encaustic with Collage Workshop

This intermediate workshop is designed as a way to grow your encaustic painting. Experienced artist and educator Dana Harris Seeger will guide you through her process of adding collage elements into encaustic.

In an intimate setting, you will expand your encaustic skills by adding collage in a range of different ways. Dana will show you her process of using a heat gun, an iron, even image transfer on your encaustic wax art pieces. Encaustic has a way of layering that is unlike any other 2-D medium! Embed all kinds of images and even objects into your artwork. Each student will go home with an 8x10" encaustic painting.

All materials are covered in the class fee, including the painting substrate, medium, pigments used, brushes, primer and other related materials. You should bring any collage materials you may want to use, but Dana has suitcases full of paper, ephemera, even leaves and plants can be suitable! Use your imagination.

Students are encouraged to have some encaustic experience, as this class will assume you know most of the basics. Check out my video on encaustic with collage to get a sense of what the class is about!

Meet Your Instructor

Dana Harris Seeger was born in El Granda, California. She received her MFA in Printmaking from San Jose State University in 2011 and her BA in Painting from Anderson University in 2004. She has been a member of the California Society of Printmakers since 2011. In 2014, she co-founded an art studio and school in San Jose called the School of Visual Philosophy. She exhibits her work nationally and has been published in Studio Visit Magazine and Content Magazine. She has won awards for her work including being named a 2020 Santa Clara County Artist Laureate, Creative Ambassador for the city of San Jose and First Place in Mixed Media at the Edmonds Art Festival in 2024. She currently resides in Poulsbo, Washington with her husband, Yori Seeger, daughter and twin sons and displays her work at Verksted Gallery in downtown Poulsbo.
