Voices continues their 30th year celebration singing some of their favorite songs and getting ready to take those songs on their birthday sojourn to Scotland! Don’t miss Voices from the Heart’s special anniversary concert June 7th at South Church, 292 State St in Portsmouth at 4:00 and 7:30!
“We are so excited to continue our year-long birthday celebration singing many of our favorite songs!” shares director, Joanne Connolly. “We are preparing songs that reflect and celebrate our country’s diversity to share with Scotland…African American spirituals and gospel music, Native American music, and the ever-popular pop tune, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough!”.
We will share who we are in song with our new Scotland friends, and we will also honor them by singing their beautiful 'Skye Boat Song' on our tour, which will actually land us on the Isle Of Skye! In celebration of Scotland, we will also be singing their unofficial national anthem 'Flower of Scotland', which celebrates the Scottish victory in 1314 of Robert the Bruce over England’s Prince Edward’s Army. We will incorporate African drumming, Native American flute playing, and of course, a gospel band to raise the roof!”
Randy Armstrong will be on hand on June 7th to offer the world beat to our music and to play his Native American flute as we sing a beautiful Cherokee Morning Song. Our friend and pianist, Matt Jenson and trio will also be on hand to lift the spirit and make your feet feel like dancing!!
Tickets are on sale now! Get your tickets before they sell out! Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door on concert day. Doors open to the public a half hour before concert time.
