SOPHIE B. HAWKINS is a singer-songwriter and GRAMMY Award nominee born and raised in New York, NY. Her debut platinum album, Tongues and Tails, featuring the indelible Top 10 single “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover,” was followed by another platinum release, Whaler, which included several hits—most notably “As I Lay Me Down,” the longest-running single in Billboard Adult Contemporary history.
Over the past three decades, Sophie has garnered multiple awards, seen her songs featured in films and TV shows, performed sold-out concerts, and made memorable appearances in television and film, including Community. She’s collaborated with some of the most respected names in the music industry, starred in the acclaimed documentary The Cream Will Rise, and earned praise for her portrayal of Janis Joplin in the nationally touring play Room 105.
In recent years, she has released seven additional albums, including Free Myself (2023), whose single “Love Yourself” climbed to #3 on the UK Dance Charts. Her latest project, Birds of New York, is an original “playsical” currently in development, for which she has written the book, music, and lyrics.
A passionate and longtime activist, Sophie continues to champion causes related to the environment, animal welfare, and LGBTQ+ rights.
