Complex is an improv format that explores a single apartment building, uncovering the many lives, quirks, and relationships within its walls. In this class, you’ll practice bringing spaces to life through detailed environment work, building layered characters rooted in reality, and discovering the comedy that comes from authentic relationships and situations.
The format takes us into both private apartments and shared spaces like courtyards, lobbies, laundry rooms, and elevators. Some characters constantly cross paths, others live in their own bubbles, but all belong to the same shared world. The result is a comedic, character-driven tapestry that feels real, relatable, and full of humor.
By the end of the course, you’ll strengthen your skills in:
In-depth character work – crafting specific, memorable characters with distinct points of view
Environment and space work – making settings vivid and believable so your scenes feel grounded
Relationship – developing connections between characters that feel authentic, funny, and full of heart
If you’re looking to expand your improv toolkit and dive into a format that blends grounded reality with big laughs, Complex offers a chance to stretch your creativity while building a hilarious, dynamic world together.
